A scholarship often makes the difference in UCSD’s ability to attract students whose financial resources may not match their personal and academic talents – yet UCSD is only able to provide privately funded scholarship support to less than five percent of our students. Private support is therefore critical to providing needed scholarships to more of our students. Through merit/need scholarships, we can reach the best and the brightest and ensure the socioeconomic diversity of our campus community. Merit/need scholarships include:
Alumni Leadership Scholarships
The Alumni Leadership Scholarship Program enables alumni to endow scholarships which immediately assist juniors or seniors who find it increasingly difficult to balance demanding coursework with the ability to pay for educational expenses.

Chancellor’s Scholarships
The Chancellor’s Scholarships are awarded to outstanding entering freshmen on the basis of academic achievement and other factors, such as financial need, extracurricular and community activities, previous educational environment and first-generation college attendance.
Transfer Students
Students entering UCSD after two years of community college are considered for the Transfer Student Scholarship Awards if they meet the highly competitive scholarship criteria.
College and Academic Funds
Targeted scholarships are available for students in a specific UCSD college or academic concentration. Alumni can donate to the college they attended or the field they studied in to support current students following the same path.
Honoring and Memorial Funds
Many funds have been created to honor previous UCSD faculty, staff and others. These scholarships are often targeted towards students that uphold the qualities that were important to the honored person. |
| |
Regents Scholars
Students with outstanding academic records and personal achievement are considered for Regents Scholarships, the university's most prestigious scholarship award. These four-year scholarships are awarded to entering freshmen on the basis of merit. To give to this fund, please contact Kim Signoret-Paar at kspaar@ucsd.edu
